De Ateliers, Amsterdam and new work
January 2015

I joined De Ateliers, the two year residency programme in Amsterdam, in Autumn 2014. I’ve been enjoying making new work in an inspiring environment, backed with great support from a host of influential artists, curators and art thinkers.

Working through much fresh¬†thinking, I’ve been researching the possibilities for new work.¬†“Stall” (2014) is a film inspired by East Amsterdam’s thriving Dapper Market. As soon as I arrived in Amsterdam, I was instantly drawn to the market’s buzz and began several weeks of observation. I would wake at dawn and note stall holders setting up for the day. I liked the idea of flux, temporality and the discipline of the trade.

I wanted the film to communicate these ideas in way that’s almost tangible, so I constructed a filming mechanism with interactive¬†sections that bend, pull, push, etc. The film was part of an installation at the “New Participants” group show at De Ateliers in November, 2014.

The Work section of the website will be updated with new projects in the coming months – please check back soon.
